Sometime’s all you need is a good, hearty, warm pub feed. If you’re in or around Paddington, here’s the spots guaranteed to hit the spot.
Unlike some of the more polished pubs in Paddington, The Unicorn is a down-to-earth joint that serves old-school pub grub at its finest. And when we say old-school, were talking a plate of Jatz with French onion dip, prawn cocktails, meat pies with mash and peas and a good ol plate of snags with mash, peas and onion gravy. The food is quality, the vibe is relaxed, and with a history dating back to 1941, this old Aussie pub has beer pouring and pub grub down pat.

The London Hotel lands somewhere between stylish gastro pub and laid-back local. Some punters keep it real with sport and draught beer at the front bar, while others prefer to sip pinot noir and graze a charcuterie board in the dining room or covered timber courtyard out back. Scotch eggs and classic fish and chips pay homage to old Londontown and the daily meal specials, including 2 for 1 pizza Wednesdays and $12 steak night Thursdays, keep everyones wallets and bellies happy.

Keep it classic with a beef burger, chicken Schnitz or beer battered fish and chips, or opt for something more refined like the crab linguini or duck liver parfait. The buttermilk fried chicken burger is probably the hardest menu item to resist but if you have the willpower of a samurai warrior you might choose to opt for the Vitality Salad with quinoa, spinach, marinated feta, sweet potato, toasted seeds and heirloom tomatoes. The food at The Royal Hotel Paddington is well worth a try but what makes this place extra special is the rooftop bar with views over Sydney and little glimpses of the harbour.

Since its stylish makeover last year, this old corner pub has had a boost in popularity. And when it comes to pub food, The Paddington Inn has the best of both worlds: traditional pub grub out the front and a more sophisticated, fine dining space out the back. The front bar dishes up gourmet burgers and juicy steaks with chips, whilst diners in the restaurant enjoy Sydney rock oysters, beef tartare and whole roasted duck. The different dining areas have price tags to match, with meals at the front bar around the $25 mark and mains in the dining room closer to $40. Whether youre up for a low-key beer and burger or some romantic wine quaffing and fine dining, the Paddington Inn will deliver.
