Sometimes one bottle of wine just isnt enough, but who wants to spend more on wine than food? Thats where BYO restaurants come to the rescue because we all love getting tipsy on the cheap. Drink responsibly though, okay? And if thats too much to ask, bring your responsible friends, Jane and Richard to keep you under control.
This little Italian eatery in the backstreets of Surry Hills could easily be in the backstreets of Rome. Unpretentious and homely, Il Baretto is all about traditional Italian cooking with recipes straight from nonnas kitchen. The Fideli family migrated to Australia in 1964, bringing with them a passion and nostalgia for Rome that has been the driving force behind Il Baretto since it opened in 1999. Homemade pastas are their specialty and there are plenty to choose from. There are a few imported Italian wines available but BYO is equally welcome.

Spice I Am has been praised for years for its authentic food, which is apparently the best Thai food outside of Thailand. No wonder theres often a queue spilling out the door. But be warned, this menu is not for the faint hearted. Most dishes have a spicy kick and some will give you serious chilli sweats, so perhaps avoid this place on a first date. BYO an ice-cold beer to cool off.
