Whether youre in the market to purchase some fine leather goods, or looking to establish and hone your own leathercraft skills, Birdsall Leathercraft offers a range of products and weekly workshops, drawing upon five generations of knowledge to achieve unsurpassed quality and satisfaction.

With an incredibly prestigious history spanning back five generations, Birdsall Leathercraft was established in 1883 in Sydney. Finding prosperity in supplying quality leather skins to a domestic and international market, Birdsall Leathercraft has excelled in the tannery trade, and now is shifting its focus more heavily to workshops suitable for the whole family. Ever wanted to make your own pair of leather sandals? Or maybe your own unique top hat? With a range of hands-on workshops available throughout the year, Birdsall Leathercraft is not only a great place to buy leather goods, but a great place to learn about leathercraft yourself!

The People

After enjoying the five generation, 105 year-run at their former location in Mascot (then known as the North Botany Tannery), Birdsall Leathercraft relocated in 1988 to their present location in Botany. Run by the fifth generation of Birdsalls, Andrew and Ross, the tannery specialises in easy online and mail orders, shipping their famed leather goods around the country and around the world. Crafting everything from saddlery, to exotic skins, belts, Aussie-made ugg boots and cowhide rugs, their extensive range has found a lucrative market with international buyers. In addition to simply tanning and selling leather goods, Birdsall Leathercraft also hosts weekly leathercraft classes and workshops where people can try their hand at making shoes, whips, journals and more. With a rich and proud heritage, its no wonder Birdsall Leathercraft has chiselled out a stable and rewarding market for itself not only in Australia, but around the world.

The Process

With regular leathercraft workshops held throughout the year for beginner, regular and general classes, group bookings and even project-specific week-long programs, Birdsall Leathercraft is a great school holiday destination for the crafty kids, or for any discerning lover of leather goods. With workshops including top hat making, dog collar crafting, and shoe-making, Birdsall offers a comprehensive calendar of year-round events certain to entertain the whole family. With an online shop stocking everything from sheepskin rugs, to cowhides, kangaroo skins, belts, leather lacing, journals, leathercraft tools, whips and saddlery, theres only one reason why Birdsall Leathercraft has endured five generations of success; and its because theyre the best.
