Underwood Lane has a diverse menu ranging from an all day breakfast to a brunch or even lunch occasion for its local corporate or tourist clientele. It’s a retro style kitchen meets rustic artisan coffee shop, it’s warm, inviting and extremely popular.
Nestled comfortably on the corner of Pitt and Underwood Streets (where the cafe gets in name), Underwood Lane is a one stop shop for busy CBD workers and tourists alike whether it’s for breakfast, lunch or just a coffee. You can get it all at Underwood Lane.
The venue is well thought out – it’s functional and aimed at minimising the amount of time it takes for people on the move to grab a coffee or a bite to eat. Underwood Lane features a designated express counter for people in a hurry and a 100 seat cafe.
To a takeaway hot and cold food and beverage bar around the corner in Underwood Lane where you can get freshly made sandwiches or wraps or a hot meal – from pastas/ roasts, burgers or barramundi/ salmon fillets all coming with vegetables, salads or chips. There are healthy, vegetarian or gluten free items, fresh juices or low fat smoothies available.
Owners Frank Puglisi and Kim Loupis both have years of hospitality and service industry experience. Kim manages a flourishing artisan coffee roasting business, that is at the heart of Underwood Lanes good coffee. The Wood Roaster supplies many Australian cafes as well as his own, while Frank is always on hand at the shop to manage the business and cater to the needs of its many regular customers.
Like any successful cafe business you need good people. Michael is the head chef, Elis is their gun barista and Darma is their gracious and endearing server.
Underwood Lane is all about good quality food, great coffee and of course – a focus on the customers and their needs. Frank and Kim and their team are passionate and its easy to see the love they have for what they do.
Some of Underwood Lanes favourites, other than the all day brekkie stack, is the to-die-for crispy skin barramundi with a chilli and orange glaze or the freshest rice paper rolls or Vietnamese noodle salads you will ever eat.
The menu is so diverse with vegetarian and gluten options well represented within breakfast, lunch or even desserts.
With its industrial 1950’s Brooklyn diner themed fitout, Underwood Lane is a warm, homely and somewhat nostalgic place to recharge the body and soul – set in the heart of Sydney CBD. All within a Cooee of the Harbour Bridge and one of the best harbour’s in the world.
Our thoughts are its well worth a visit, so I’ll see you there soon.
