Hello, brown paper bag.

We love a good wine list as much as the next person, but sometimes you just have an appetite for good value. So weve compiled a list of some of our favourite places with delicious food and an energetic atmosphere. Be prepared; come armed with your favourite bottle to one of these top BYO restaurants.

Vacanza

So nice, they opened twice! With two restaurants located in Sydney, Vacanza is authentic Italian at its best. The less is more philosophy is applied here, with toppings kept to a minimum and spread evenly across perfect dough. The Il Capitano is a personal favourite otherwise, try the buffalo mozzarella flown all the way from Naples. Both Surry Hills and Bronte restaurants are BYO friendly and are suitable for groups of eight or less.

Chat Thai

Right from the steamy streets of Bangkok, Chat thai is home to one of the best Thai restaurants in Sydney. You are definitely spoilt for choice in this bare-brick establishment. The menu includes a delicious range of Thai food including stir-fries, soups, satay skewers and street food classics. Available in various locations, all five Chat Thai branches are BYO – and with an inevitable queue (it is Sydney after all), you know it is going to be good.

Xage

A streetside Vietnamese joint that puts an emphasis on spices, freshness and balance. Its super casual dining with an open plan indoor-outdoor area – absolutely perfect for a hot summer day. From salt and pepper squid to the freshest rice paper rolls, theyve got enough dishes to satisfy any Vietnamese craving.

Two Chaps

This hole-in-the-wall garage is a cafe/bakery by day as well as an amazing BYO restaurant by night. Well, predominately on Thursday and Friday nights to be exact. The menu consists of insanely generous portions of handmade pastas and local cheeses. From mushroom ravioli with sage burnt butter to fluffy, golden focaccia there is something for everyone (even our gluten-free friends!). The dishes change with the seasons but we can guarantee that you can expect nothing but the freshest produce each time around.

Corkage: $4 or free with set menu

Kepos Street Kitchen

Middle Eastern made for sharing. Sometimes, the best meal is the simplest one. Their hummus is eternally creamy and will leave you wanting more. Dates get even more Middle Eastern, stuffed with walnuts and served with Israeli honey, it is a perfect way to end a heartfelt meal. If dinner is not your thing, it also has a repertoire for good breakfast. However be warned, it can be absolutely rammed on weekends. Regardless, this is food that brings everyone to the table, and wont let them leave.
