Bondi has been getting by on its good looks alone for quite a while now. But this beachside hub has started wanting to add a bit of substance to its style. While smoothie joints and ice-creameries are still Bondis main stock in trade, there are some great cafes and restaurants popping up that deserve a visit. Today Postcoder contributor Jennifer Hopper checks Bondis dining scene out and gives us her Top 5 places to wine, dine or recline.

Porch & Parlour

Its easy to be beguiled by Porch & Parlours attractive looks. With the interior decorated like some sort of crumbling greenhouse (think Mediterranean tile work, patchy plastered walls and greenery), the look is relaxed but elegant. The menu is somewhat similar, with lots of high-style options that are as tasty as they look. Best of all you can actually dine here anytime breakfast carries on to lunch and right on up to dinner and drinks.

North Bondi Fish

North Bondi Fish has the kind of view that takes your breath away. Located at the other end of the beach, it takes in the full sweep of the bay, making North Bondi Fish the perfect place to sit and enjoy some fresh seafood. And while the dishes dont come cheap (youre looking at $35+ for a main), they do come good! Share plates are also on offer so you can spread the cost and sample more!

Lox, Stock & Barrel Deli Diner

Lox, Stock and Barrel is the place to go if you want a quick but brilliant bite. Specialising in bagels and everything that can be stuffed into them, these guys are all about delicious, but healthy food. The emphasis is on seasonal produce with a farm to plate kitchen philosophy.

Shuk

With its Middle Eastern dishes and crusty loaves of bread for sale, Shuk is the destination for hearty food that will fill every inch of your hungering tum. The generous servings are backed up with plenty of flavour and you will love the fresh, punchy dishes cooked up by the inventive kitchen crew. For those fans of the Israeli dish shakshuka (eggs, eggplant, tomatoes), Shuk does a powerful version of its own youd be a fool not to try.

Bondi Hardware

If all that Bondi sun, surf and sand have got you wanting some shade, a seat and some concrete, then Bondi Hardware is your place to hide away. While it still cant conceal the fact its a beachside pub, this place takes things down a notch and offers a refreshing retreat. The menu is easy and nothing too highbrow, with a Mexicali vibe running through everything (its tacos, quesadillas and more tacos). The vibe is friendly and relaxed.
