Introducing Universal Practice, a modern physiotherapy practice offering physiotherapy, pilates and yoga for professional athletes and well… everybody.

Run by Physiotherapist, Sammy Wilson (BA Science, Doc Physiotherapy), who has treated everyone from elite gymnasts to retirees, Universal Practice was founded in 2016 when she saw a gap in the market for studios to take a more clinical approach.

“Yoga and Pilates is incredibly beneficial when taught by health professionals – ensuring the client is moving intelligently and receiving the intended mental and physical benefits. As physiotherapists, we have extensively studied the human body and are highly qualified not just to deliver treatments, but to teach Pilates and Yoga.

We understand the fundamental mechanisms and needs of the body, so our classes are prescribed to achieve healing and growth. This makes the classes at Universal Practice fundamentally different to those delivered by teachers that are not Physiotherapists, and have not done the extensive training,” said Sammy.

Universal Practice is proud to announce that all staff are qualified Physiotherapists, ensuring every team member is medically trained and qualified to deal with a range of clients and issues. Classes includes Ropes Yoga, Yoga Asana, Yin Soundbath, Reformer Pilates, Ante & Post Natal Pilates, Clinical Pilates and Meditation as well as one-on-one classes and Physiotherapy appointments. Oh and did we mention, qualified teachers allows for Private Health Insurance Rebate, making it far more affordable for such a high-quality service.

With two studios – one in Richmond, and one in Fitzroy – Universal Practice is named after the Universal connection we all have to the natural world and its complementary healing capacities. Universal Practice’s mission is around empowering the individual, on a continuous pathway of healing, expansion and connection. This winter, Sammy and her team hope to take this mission one step further with the winter workshops they have organised from June to August.

Each month will cover a specific topic, with guest speakers who are experts in the field.

June – Food and The Body

Saturday 30 June, 10 – 12pm

A morning of coffee and conversation with Universal Practice Founder and Physiotherapist, Sammy Wilson, and Dr Sandro Demalo, author of ‘Doctor’s Diet’ and host of ABC’s ‘Ask The Doctor’. Together they will consider the unique potential that food has to shape our lives, or even just a day. Fittingly, a nourishing, quality selection of refreshments will be served, to assist attendees with making the most of their day.

July – Modern Living and the Mind

Sunday 15 July, 10 – 12pm

Together with Sammy Wilson, a guest psychologist, and AFL footballer Jaegar O’Meara will speak about the role of the mind in our modern landscape of performance, professional ambition, and stress. Attendees will also be invited to contemplate the role of ritual, by commencing the workshop with a meditation that calms, and concluding with a meditation that energises.

August – Philosophy and Film

Thursday 30 August, 6:15pm – 8:15pm

Mark the change of seasons with a moment of reflection, over local wine and a selection of short films. Universal Practice and a special guest will lead a relaxed evening of philosophical questions and discussion, prompting attendees to consider the season that was, and the season that will be.

Contact each studio directly to find out more about pricing and the winter workshops.
