Nothing goes down quite like a slice. Melbourne is in the midst of a pizza boom, with Italian pies popping up all over the city. While every pizza is beautiful in its way, the slices from these Melbourne CBD pizza joints are something extra-special.
If you ask us, 11 inches really is the perfect size for a pizza. Especially when every square inch is covered in beautiful homemade sauce, fresh toppings and a nice fior di latte, provolone or mozzarella. This is pizza done simple, but right.

Eight years ago, six Italian pals opened +39 Pizzeria. With that kind of authenticity behind it, its no wonder this place became a fast favourite, winning Best Pizza in Melbourne just a year after opening. Today, +39 is still one of Melbournes best pizza joints, sticking to traditional over trendy.

This place is pushing the pizza boundaries. Their menu offers a few classic pizzas, but things get interesting about three pizzas down when you come across creations like the Porkypine (grilled pineapple, burnt pickled onion, double leg ham, tomato, mozzarella, provolone), Pizzagna (self-explanatory despite being a made-up word) and very popular Sexy Truffle (truffle cream, mozzarella, mushroom, rocket, parmesan).

Craving a classic New York-style slice? Head to Pizza Pizza Pizza. They do fast and loose slices for $4 or a full (and big) pie for $28. With just five basic pizzas on the menu, you wont have to think too hard about what youre going to order.

This place is doing things a little bit differently. Their pizza crusts are extra-thin and sourdough, which gives the pizza an extra layer of flavour. Theyve also invested in a very new woodfire oven that gets incredibly hot, cooking pizzas to perfection in just 60 seconds. Any oven that gets the pizza into our faces faster is okay by us.
