City dwellers rejoice, Pidapipo has opened in your area! Having already captured the hearts of Melbourne’s North and South, Pidapipo has decided to go more central, opening its third store in Degraves St, Melbourne.

The latest store is located at 8 Degraves Street, between Flinders Street and Flinders Lane. It has been designed by ongoing collaborator Rabindra Naidoo Design, who also crafted the Carlton and Windsor stores. The brief for Rabindra was to design each store to be unique and relevant to the local context, all whilst remaining to keep it recognisably Pidapipo.

The result? A CBD location inspired by Italian Rationalist Architecture of the 1920s and 1930s – creatively met with a Mad Hatters Tea Party! Rabindra has used custom made furniture and fittings, all of which he has designed himself.

“As this is the smallest store to date, we’ve lost the brutality of the Carlton and Windsor stores, and replaced this with a more refined treatment and detailing.” Said Rabindra.

Walking into this beautifully designed store, you’ll notice key features, that include a circular glazed facade with counterweighted sash windows that look onto Degraves Street, and a custom pink terrazzo floor and marble benches. Of course, you’ll also notice Pidapipo’s ubiquitous neon sign out the front! Other wonderful features include a polished plaster barrel vaulted ceiling with custom brass and resin light fittings, aniline leather stools, custom steel framed windows and doors, polished plaster walls and beveled mirrors.

Offering both traditional and inventive flavours, plus a few extras just for the city crowd, Pidapipo Degraves Street is set to meet the hype.

“We are proud to be known as offering consistent gelato to our customers and will continue to do so in our city store where we have 20 flavours on rotation made from scratch each day, using the very best ingredients and stored in Pozzetti to maintain optimum quality.” Explains owner, Lisa Valmorbida.

Flavours include Dulce De Leche, Black Sesame, and (with much anticipated excitement) Lisa is bringing back a crowd favourite: Malted Chocolate! (We definitely recommend trying this one).

For those of you who like to mix things up, Pidapipo will also be offering a combination of gelato and granita, such as Dark Chocolate Gelato with Blood Orange Granita or Fior Di Latte Gelato with Raspberry Granita. Served in a cup, this is Italy’s answer to the largely popular “spider” drink.

Pidapipo CBD store is open now from midday to 11pm daily.
