Gardenvale may be one of Melbournes teeniest suburbs, but it packs a lot into its itty bitty boarders. With a rather la-di-dah past (Gardenvale was formerly the polo paddock of the Lemprires, a high-falutin Caulfield family), it is now a tidy little suburb made up of period homes, sweet parks and nice cafes. Today Postcoder takes a stroll around town and gives you the highlights.

Amitie Textiles

The front windows of Amitie Textiles are as seductive as a lolly shop for those who love fabric, colour and crafts. Boasting wall after wall of imported and locally made fabrics, Amitie Textiles is THE place for exquisitely printed cloth perfect for quilt making, cushions and soft furnishings. Even if youve never picked up a needle and thread, this shop is worth a look for the experience alone.

Omar & The Marvelous Coffee Bird

Saying that the Omar crew is passionate about coffee is an almost criminal understatement. With a mission to inspire a love of coffee in even the most hardened tea drinker, these guys have travelled the world, discovered the highest quality beans and brought them home to Gardenvale for your enjoyment. Using a computer-controlled roasting process, they ensure that every precious bean is roasted to its optimum temperature before being ground up and tenderly prepared by a barista. We recommend you dont ask for a soy chai!

Gardenvale Park

Gardenvale Park is what all community parks should be fenced by white pickets and set up with a retro bandstand, this green oasis is an adorable, and tiny place to play. With two magnificent climbing trees (one of them is strangely horizontal) and a decent set of play equipment, small people are easily entertained. Best of all it is very well shaded by glorious trees.

Cyclespeed

If snapping on the lycra and doing your best impression of Cadel Evans is your idea of a good time, then youll find some fellow travellers when you visit Cyclespeed. This cycle shop is a go-to for people who know their wheels from their handlebars. Owned by Gardenvale local, Chris, and his trusty side-kick, Asher, Cyclespeed has got a rep for selling some very sexy bikes!
