To celebrate Precision Coffee as this months Coffee Scout bean – we chat to owner and head roaster Nic about the origins of Precision and the blend in this months subscription box.

How long have you been roasting and how did it start?

10 years in April. I had been working as a barista for a few years and got a barista job for a coffee roastery. I got interested in roasting and eventually started working for wholesale. It wasnt long before I ended up on the roaster and so my journey began.

What is your roasting process?

Start the beans as cool as possible to provide just enough momentum to get us to first crack within 10 minutes, then its a gradual coast into the second crack or shortly beforehand to give a traditional roast flavour with great chocolates and caramels that absolutely shine through the milk.

What are your goals for the roastery?

To be one link in a supply chain where everyone wins. The roaster is not the final step in the process nor are they the beginning. The roaster is merely one stop on the journey that coffee travels from the soil to our cup.

What makes you unique?

We aim to honour the farmer, we stock very few coffees and have a personal relationship with our farmers or with sourcing partners who work directly with the farmers.

Why are you passionate about the coffee industry?

The people, every step along the way theres humans working together to produce a cup of coffee.

What are the values of the roastery?

  • Continuous Improvement.
  • Relationships.
  • Human Dignity.
  • Simplicity.

Tell us about the blend in this months Coffee Scout box:

La Jacoba is the Australia import branch of ASPORUNION a cooperative of small scale producers in the south of Colombia. The unique supply model enables a direct connection with the farmers. Every step in the coffee production process is in the hands of the farmers. They grow, pick, mill, export and distribute their own coffee. Delivering a significantly higher return for the community. They then reinvest a large portion of that profit back into training and quality improvements to ensure they will be able to grow coffee for decades to come.La Jacoba is always of the highest quality and is organically grown.
