There are two things to take into consideration when picking a gym: atmosphere and method. As for the former, it’s important that you feel comfortable in your chosen workout space or you won’t be able to let go and give it your all. And when it comes to the latter, you should go with a method that hooks you in mentally because that’s what will keep you motivated. These Northcote gyms range from intense circuit training clubs to classic gyms – we hope our list will guide you to your perfect training temple.

Jetts

432-434 High St, Northcote 3070 | (03) 9481 6997

Jetts offers a straightforward gym experience except for one wonderful thing – there are no contracts! You pay as you go and you can cancel your membership whenever you want without copping a fee. The team is very friendly and they do a good job of maintaining their facilities. And with 24-hour access, you can pop in for a workout whenever you want.

F45

2 Separation St, Northcote 3070 | 0401 860 552

People are calling F45 (Functional 45) the ‘workout of the stars’. Developed by the Sydney personal trainer who keeps Hugh Jackman fit, F45 is based on high-intensity interval training (HIIT). During sessions, you’ll do 45 seconds of intense training followed by 15 seconds of rest, over and over and over as you make your way around a circuit of workout stations. It’s brutal but it’s one of the fastest growing training methods in Australia, so maybe it’s worth a try.

Fitness Fit

360-362 High St, Northcote 3070 | (03) 9486 8885

This 24-hour gym is on the smaller side but well-appointed with a good weights area, cardio machines and crucial resistance equipment. They don’t offer classes, so if you need a timetable to keep you on track, this might not be the gym for you. We love the vibe of this place – it’s clean, friendly and upbeat!

Northcote Aquatic & Recreation Centre

180 Victoria Rd, Northcote 3070 | (03) 9486 7200

As the largest gym on our list, Northcote Aquatic & Recreation Centre offers heaps of activities and services that the others do not. The gym is large and bustling and has indoor/outdoor pools, a spa, sauna, and Les Mills classes (Body Pump, Boxing Fit etc). In addition, they also provide on-site child care for fit parents.

Charge CrossFit

2 Goldsmith Gr, Northcote 3070 | 0411 405 379

CrossFit takes a hard, fast and creative approach to working out. They combine classic lifting moves with gymnastics, body weighted exercises, cardio and more to keep your body guessing. CrossFitters believe that routine is the enemy and evolution is the key to effective exercise. During each session, you’ll do a circuit of moves set by the trainers – it’s intense and fast-paced but fairly short.
