Husband and wife team, Poramet and Titima, were on a roll. To keep up with the demand for their beautiful Thai food, theyd opened three Gold Coast restaurants over the course of seven years. But this year, they sold the dining dynasty theyd built to go local with a new restaurant. Nestled on Brooke Avenue in Chirn Park, Charm Thai Cuisine is connecting to their new community through delicious Thai food.
Titima explains that theyd felt disconnected from the tourist-driven bustle of their original Gold Coast restaurants. They wanted to cook for a community and become part of a real neighbourhood. She says, We wanted to share our food with local people and bring them our very original, real Thai food. Chirn Park is a small area and were getting to know the people here. Weve been working in tourist areas for so long, we want to cook for our neighbours now.
Charm Thai is a delicious addition to the Chirn Park and broader Southport area. In the kitchen, Poramet cooks with traditional Thai technique and ingredients but finishes with modern Australian presentation. Titimas explains that their dishes taste like old-school Thailand but look like today.
Weve been working in tourist areas for so long, we want to cook for our neighbours now.
The restaurant has been very well-received. Charm Thai has already built up a band of regulars that cant get enough of their food. Classic dishes like Pad Thai, saucy Massaman and crispy BBQ pork with hot chilli sauce and sticky rice are always a popular pick with the Coconut Lime Prawns and Fig Lamb as great signature dish choices. In fact – Charm Thais Goong Yang grilled prawn dish is so good that when they sold their first restaurants, the buyer insisted that the recipe be included in the sale.
Poramet and Titima wrote the recipe into the contract but Titima says that even with the recipe, theres no way another chef could make it taste the way her husband does. He loves to cook, he loves to see his customers faces when they enjoy his food. Thats why he cooks everything from his heart with love, to make sure that his food makes people happy.
Charm Thai is a happy place. Its a bright, modern and inviting place to sit down for a meal or pop in to pick up takeaway. It took Poramet and Titimas years to find a venue that felt right. They knew theyd be in it for the long haul, so they needed a place that would be a second home for them. When they finally found the spot on Brooke Avenue, it was a yes within moments.
Not only is Charm Thai a second home for its owners, its also a place for people in the area to flock to. Titimas says that they see new faces all the time, but almost without fail, those faces return for second, third, fourth visits.
She says, Our food and service keeps customers coming back. Ever since we opened, after a customer tries our food, they want to come back. And our restaurant is very modern, relaxing, enjoyable its a good place for people to spend time in.
Customers also like racking up points through Charm Thais membership program, one of the first restaurants in the area to adopt the idea of rewards. Every time a member eats at or orders food from Charm Thai, they get points towards prizes like free entrees and mains. The rewards definitely act as an incentive, but Titima also sees it as a way to give back to customers and continuously say thank-you for choosing their restaurant.
The Charm Thai Cuisine team made the move to Chirn Park to find their place in the local community. Strong communities thrive on collaboration and for Titima and Poramet, that attitude is a no-brainer.
